Heels are a prime consideration -- minimum height is 3 inches, as anything shorter can make your stomach stick out. Especially look for a shoe with a plastic one-piece sole and heel. Shoes with the leather & wood heels may appear more elegant but eventually the heels tend to flex too much, which can add a lot of stress to your knees and back. Adding no-slip rubber pads on the bottom of your shoes is also a good idea, as it prevents embarrassing mishaps on slippery floors.
